Иероним Босх (1453–1516), великий нидерландский живописец. Поражают поэтические пейзажные фоны, смелые жизненные наблюдения, и метко схваченные художником народные типы.  Тяга к иронии и иносказанию, к воплощению в гротескно-сатирической форме сцены из библии и народной жизни способствовали становлению творческой манеры Питера Брейгеля Старшего и других художников.

The museum of El Escorial holds magnificent artwork. It’s no accident that Habsburgs were considered the greatest patrons of arts in their time.

Hieronymus Bosch (1453-1516), great Netherlandish painter. His poetic landscapes, bold situational observations, and sharp interpretation of national character are amazing. The artist’s gravitation to irony and allegory, and his grotesque-satirical interpretation of scenes from the bible and people’s lives influenced the shaping of the creative style of Pieter Bruegel the Elder and other painters.

В Эскориале покоится прах почти всех королей Испании за последние пять столетий, Бурбонов и Габсбургов. В пантеоне (фото 13-20) могилы Карла V, Филипа II, Филипа III, Филипа IV, Карла II, Людовика I, Карла III, Карла IV, Фердинанда VII, Изабеля II, Альфонсо XII, и Альфонсо XIII. Всех кроме двух: Филипп V терпеть не мог мрачности Эскориала и просил похоронить его в Сеговии, а Фердинанд VI, похоронен в Мадриде.

El Escorial is the burial site for most of the Spanish kings of the last five centuries, Bourbons as well as Habsburgs. The Royal Pantheon (photo 13-20) contains the tombs of Charles V, Philip II, Philip III, Philip IV, Charles II, Louis I, Charles III, Charles IV, Ferdinand VII, Isabel II, Alfonso XII, and Alfonso XIII. All except two: Philip V couldn’t stand the gloom of El Escorial and asked to be buried in Segovia, and Ferdinand VI is buried in Madrid.
